BJP led protest rally demands ouster of Education Minister

BOLENG, Oct 11: The hitherto calm Boleng ADC headquarters in East Siang district witnessed unprecedented heat on Friday with people from all walks of life taking to its streets, demanding that Education Minister Tapang Taloh be dropped from the Arunachal Pradesh government for allegedly engineering mass transfer of government employees from Pangin-Boleng constituency.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers led by the party’s Boleng Mandal president Takum Tasing along with senior leaders Tapang Tamut and Ojing Tasing led a rally from Gandhi village to the ADC office here on Friday to press the demand. After submitting a memorandum to the ADC in-charge Gamtum Padu at his office chamber, the rally proceeded to the General Ground where they burnt Taloh’s effigy amid slogans against the minister’s ‘irrational and autocratic decision.’

Condemning the state government over the decision, the BJP leaders accused the Congress-led government of indulging in a witch hunt by targeting BJP sympathizers, alleging that Taloh engineered the transfer process which has now snowballed into a controversy.

‘Taloh has deliberately targeted government employees, including 38 teachers, 4 PHED staffers and another 30 casual labourers from the Hydropower Department who had voted in favour of the BJP in the last assembly election,’ claimed Tasing, who had contested unsuccessfully against Congress candidate Taloh.

Tasing brushed off the government’s explanation that the move was made to rationalize transfers and postings, saying ‘it was an out and out instance of pick and choose. One of the relatives of the education minister, who has been serving at the same school for the last two decades, was not issued a transfer order.’  In their memorandum to the ADC in-charge, the BJP leaders also said the mass transfer of teachers during mid-academic session would seriously hamper the learning-teaching process.

“As per the CCS Rules, payment of TTA in advance should be considered before issuing transfer orders. However, the government has ignored all rules and has acted at the behest of Taloh,’ the memorandum further read.

The BJP leaders have threatened to launch a series of ‘democratic agitations’ until their demand for a complete halt on the mass transfer is met.

 

Govt will not succumb to pressure: Taloh

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Education minister Tapang Taloh has reacted to the dharna staged by the students of Government Higher Secondary School Kharsang for the want of subject teachers in the school.

He clarified that his government has already posted the required subject teachers of Geography, Maths and Biology in the school.

‘Without knowing the ground realities, staging dharna is very unfortunate. When they are to get the required subject teachers, which was pending for months together, this step of the government has to be welcomed by the student community and Changlang district as a whole. Since the government has already taken a revolutionary step in regard with the policy on transfer and postings of teachers for the ultimate cause of balanced and equal justice to all the districts, considering everyone as the part of its own family,’ Minister Taloh said making an ardent appeal to all concerned to extend its full support to the government in this regard.

He further added that the Government will not succumb to any pressure from any group of agitators but will stick to give equal justice to all the children in the peace loving state and will not allow anyone to discriminate them from getting the Right to Education.

 

 

East Siang teachers on warpath against mass transfer

PASIGHAT, Oct 11: Alleging that the recent mass transfer of elementary teachers in East Siang by the Department of Elementary Education has violated all standing rules framed by the state government, the members of Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA) has demanded immediate cancellation of the order in the larger interest of the society.

The association in its memorandum submitted to the Director of Elementary Education recently stated that the policy adopted by the authority in transferring the teachers has mocked the state’s Education Act, 2010. It said that any transfer and posting of teachers should be done in the months of April and May so that the academic study of students is not hampered.

Referring to the transfer order issued on September 11, the teachers have lamented that the order even did not spare those teachers, who are on the verge of retirement on superannuation and the physically handicapped ones have been posted in remote districts violating the norms.

The reason of massive transfer of elementary teachers is said to be excess in number, but in fact, the pupil-teacher ratio in East Siang schools are not maintained. Moreover, more than 14 teachers from other districts have been posted in East Siang schools.

“If the transfer is made for rationalizing of teacher then why the education department is posting surplus teachers in this district”, the sufferers questioned.

There is allegation that the authority has transferred teachers of some schools having only one teacher without relievers. Moreover, a group of teachers, who are undergoing D. Ed. course on deputation, are also transferred creating problem for them to complete the courses. Seven teachers of Pasighat West area, who have been engaged as Booth Level Officer in the ongoing electoral revision, are also included in the transfer list, while 10 out of the total 16 teachers in Pasighat Balwadi Upper Primary School have been given transfer orders. Thus, the transfer order bears a lot of discrepancies and violation of norms, but the Minister for Education and directors are adamant on the issue, which is causing unrest among the teachers.

“Our dissatisfaction stems on the fact that the transfer order violates the laid down policy already framed by the state government. The order was issued without taking account of the teachers’ service carrier, performance records and station seniority criteria. We have pledged not to carry the impugned transfer order and are even ready to move the High Court challenging it”, said the ATA functionaries.

The memorandum cautioned the authority of indefinite Pen-Down strike in protest of the allegedly illegal transfer orders, if their demand for revocation is not met before 13 October.

 

 

Salary of 3 teachers held up

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Papum Pare Deputy Director of School Education inspected various schools under Balijan Circle yesterday to take stock of the functioning of those schools.

During the visit, one teacher of Primary School, Teli Tea Estate was found absent from duty since September 15 without prior sanction of leave from the authority concerned and his salary has been held up and show cause notice served, the DDSE informed in a release.

Further, the Govt. Primary School, Lower Tubung was also found closed. On enquiry, two students, who were waiting for arrival of teachers, told that teachers of the school did not turn up for duty the previous day also. Taking serious note on irregularity by the teachers of the school, the DDSE also held up their salaries with immediate effect and served show-cause notice to them, the release added, The rest of the schools the DDSE visited on the day were found running smoothly.

Later, Balijan ZPM Tana Puna apprised the DDSE about various problems of the schools such as shortage of classrooms, desk-bench and the need for maintenance and renovation of old school buildings which are in dilapidated conditions.

 

 

INC tightens belt to retain Kanubari seat

KANUBARI,  Oct 11: The ruling INC in Arunachal Pradesh put forth all its might to retain the Kanubari Assembly seat today with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, along with party stalwarts, addressing a huge rally at Kanubari in a last bid to woo the electorates for the second time in five months.

The 58-Kanubari Assembly seat fell vacant after the demise of veteran Congress leader Newlai Tingkhatra days after the election results were declared. He had won the seat in a triangular contest last April. By-election for the seat is scheduled on October 15, which would witness a straight fight between Congress nominee Gabriel Denwang Wangsu, a former journalist, and BJP’s Rongnai Maham.

Paying rich tributes to late Tingkhatra, Tuki said the people had exuded confidence on the late leader and Congress party by making him victorious in the Assembly elections this year. However, as fate would have it, he said, late Tingkhatra left behind several unfinished initiatives and unfulfilled promises. “Therefore, we must now elect Wangsu, the Congress candidate, so that he can fulfill these,” Tuki said. The Chief Minister also observed that Longding district has three assembly constituencies – Pongchau Wakka, Longding Pumao and Kanubari – of which the former two are currently represented by Congress MLAs. He asserted that for real development of Longding – a very new district – it would be better to have all three MLAs from the same party for smooth coordination and development of the district.

He also hit out on BJP leaders, who reportedly addressed rallies a couple of days earlier, saying some of them had tried to mislead the people with regard to Center-State relationship.

“There is a constitutional relationship between the Centre and the State. No matter which party rules, this relationship cannot be manipulated,” Tuki clarified discarding apprehensions over party difference affecting Center-State relation.

The Chief Minister also explained in detail the initiatives undertaken by the Congress Government in the last two years like CM’s Universal Health Insurance Scheme, CM’s Agri-Mechanization Programme, Rubber and Tea Mission, Skill Development and Employment Generation, etc.

While AICC Secretary and in-Charge Arunachal Dr Jayakumar lambasted the BJP’s ‘Achche Din Aayenge’ mantra, APCC President Padi Richo reiterated that Congress had got 42 seats from the 60 and it will retain the 42 (after it got down to 41 due to the incumbent MLA’s death).

Pongchau Wakka MLA Honchum Ngandam and Longding Pumao MLA Thangwang Wangham, asserted that Longding district needs three MLAs of the same party (Congress) for accelerated development.

Journalist-turned-politician, Wangsu buoyed by the presence of senior party leaders and the Chief Minister himself, was at his best. He promised he would fulfill the unfinished works of late Tingkhatra if given the chance.

Late Tingkhatra’s daughter, Mitali Tingkhatra also briefly spoke asserting that her family and supporters are still with Congress and would give unstinted support to the Congress nominee.

Also present in the rally were Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering, Food & Civil Supply Minister Kamlung Mossang, Parliamentary Secretary Phosum Khimhun, MLAs Dikto Yekar and Wangki Lowang, former Minister Naksang Boham and a host of party leaders. Earlier in the day, Tuki with his colleagues visited the memorial of late Tingkhatra and paid floral tributes to the departed leader.

 

 

APWWS Foundation Day observed

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The 35th Foundation Day of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) was observed at Capital Complex and Aalo in a befitting manner yesterday.

At Naharlagun, the APWWS CEC organized a social service (cleanliness drive) in the Super Market area to mark its foundation day and the launch of Swach Bharat Abhiyan.

Around 50 woman members including women from Naharlagun market area and Naharlagun, A-sector municipal councillor Lishi Yopu took part in the social service.

The Society requested the residents and market welfare committee members of Capital Complex to keep their surroundings clean and extend helping hand to the APWWS in near future.

At Aalo, the APWWS Foundation Day was observed by West Siang women with various activities at Gumin Kiin.

Speaking on the occasion, former Chairperson of State Women Commission (SWC) and founding member of the society, Jarjum Gamlin Ete gave a detail deliberation on the history behind formation of the society. She said that 35 years of journey has seen a lot of breakthroughs in the emancipation of women. The movement which started with a handful of women activists in the state has picked up momentum over the years with huge participation of women in many parts of the district, she added.

“The society should rise above feminist politics and social differences to keep its sanctity as a permanent platform to raise women related issues and growing social problems like drug abuse and peddling, alcoholism, violence and crimes that are eating away the vitals of our society. We cannot be mute spectators to what is happening in the society and issues like effective handling of youth force to imbibe traditional values, movement against polygamy, formation of SHG and opening of marketing networks, domestic violence, property rights to widows, old age pension to women etc. should be taken up effectively.”

Speaking on the occasion, Tomi Ete, Retired. Secretary PHED dwelt elaborately on challenges and issues to be touched upon by the women adding that societal effort without segregation is the need of the hour to contain all burning problems.  Aalo DFO Nyali Ete, who sponsored the prizes for women sports on behalf of Gomar Foundation Society, also gave fruitful suggestions to activate the society in the district. Rtd. SSP Pomar Bagra and Kamsi, Director Kid Zee School also highlighted activities to be taken up by the women wing.

The President APWWS Aalo unit gave the details of the activities taken up by the women in the past few years. She disclosed that awareness campaign on important issues had been taken in twenty one sectors of Aalo, women wings have been opened up in remote locations and many movements relating to rape and murder, drug abuse, cleanliness etc have been taken up by the welfare society. The Secretary APWWS Aalo unit, Hoksum Ori also spoke on the occasion. The meeting also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to two women activists, Doyir Jini Lollen and Y. Mibang Ete who expired on the eve of women day.

Among others, Gijum Tali, DIPRO, Gomar Angu DDI, Mito Lollen Secy. AAPAWS, Director RCCN Liduk Ete, President PAYWA attended the function.

CM conducts aerial survey of proposed FTI site at Jote

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today conducted an aerial survey for the proposed Film & Television Institute (FTI) over Jote here. He was accompanied by IPR, Art & Cultural Affairs Secretary Dani Salu, APCC general secretary T C Tok and Jollang public leader Nabam Radhe during the survey.

The Union I&B Ministry has proposed to set up a FTI in the state at par with FTI of India, Pune and Satyajit Ray FTI (SRFTI), Kolkata for which an expert team of SRFTI is expected to visit the state soon to assess and prepare a feasibility report, the CM disclosed.

The villagers had willingly offered to donate land for the FTI when IPR Parliamentary Secretary Bamang Felix along with Salu and IPR director C M Longphong had surveyed the area on October 6 last and explained them about the FTI. Radhe reiterated the willingness of the villagers today.

The site about 10 km from here is proposed as a well-planned satellite city where the NIT, Law College, Tourist Park, Regional Cultural Centre and Academy for Indigenous Faith and Culture are coming up. The site about 25 km from the Hollongi Greenfield Airport and 35 km from Borum railway station would be very suitable for the institute, the Chief Minister said.

 

 

PWS members donate blood

PASIGHAT, Oct 11: The members of Pamuk Welfare Society (PWS) headquartered at Pasighat today donated blood in Pasighat General Hospital thus scripting the first “Community Blood Donation’ record in East Siang district.

Bloods from 13 members of the society were collected out of the 62 who had come for donating blood voluntarily.

Supporting the society’s effort, three others, including Assistant Engineer of Hydropower, Tanung Jamoh also donated blood and encouraged the society members. In total, 16 units of blood (eight A+, two B+, one AB+ and five of O+ groups) were collected on the day.

Addressing the donors at the hospital conference hall today, Blood Bank Officer of Pasighat Dr. G Jongkey highly appreciated the society members for coming forward to donate blood to save someone’s life. Dr. Jongkey informed that transfusion of blood collected from professional donor increases risks of infection and transmission of disease germs. He encouraged the people to accept only safe and voluntarily donated blood.

PWS general secretary Anand Dupak said that his society has been rendering yeoman services by conducting free health check-up camps, extending financial assistance to meritorious students to continue education, and organizing various social welfare activities from time to time.

Chief Councilor of Pasighat Municipal, Denong Tamuk and Pasighat General Hospital superintendent Dr Y Ringu (Darang) were also present on the occasion.

 

 

JNC organizes UGC sponsored seminar

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The Department of English, J N College, Pasighat in collaboration with Siang Royal Academy, Pasighat organized a two days UGC sponsored National Seminar on October 9 and 10.

Attending the seminar, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava highlighted the literary sparks connected with Ezekiel. She applauded the academic endeavour of the Department for organizing such an important seminar.

Prof. Pashupati Jha, IIT, Roorkee, delivered the keynote address and opened the floodgates of discussions on various fronts that connect Ezekiel as a diversified maestro of Indian English Literature. Justifying Nissim Ezekiel as a vibrant critic, poet and dramatist, Prof Jha amused the gathering with his finer thrusts that enriched Indian English Literature.

Other prominent speakers on the occasion were Prof A K Pandey, Dean, CHF, Pasighat, KalingBorang, special invitee. ArotyPadung, Chairperson, SRA, Pasighat and P C Mishra, HoD, English, JNC.

Dr S K Sinha, Organising Secretary, while delivering his welcome speech, introduced the house to the glimpses of Ezekiel’s Literary Canvas.

Tayek Talom, Principal, JNC also spoke on the occasion. The inaugural session was followed by two technical sessions with 15 presentations. The day two witnessed two technical sessions with 12 presentations.

Director Higher and Technical Education Dr Joram Begi lauded the department for plunging into such an expositional academic endeavour beyond the set norms of teaching, reading, examination, evaluation etc. He opined that such academic discourses always add to the glory of the institution in particular and the state in general.

Sardo Waii Badminton Club inaugurated

ITANAGAR, Oct 11:  Much to the delight of shuttlers in the Capital Complex, Late Sardo Waii Badminton Club was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secretary for Hydro Power cum Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering in presence of RWD Minister Kumar Waii and many other MLAs in a small but glittering function held this evening at Jollang.  

The new badminton club was personally built by RWD Minister Kumar Waii near his private residence at Jollang.

Dedicating the club which has been named after the minister’s late father, Tsering hoped that the club would cater to the needs of young shuttlers. Stressing the need for nurturing and encouraging the young players, the Parliamentary Secretary hoped that the new club would go a long way in grooming young badminton talents and provide them an opportunity to nurture their talents at national and international level events.

Describing it a great initiative, Thrizino MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (PHED) Kumsi Sidisow said this would promote the brotherhood and the feeling of oneness amongst the people of Arunachal Pradesh. Lauding the effort of RWD Minister in bringing up colossal indoor badminton court, Sidisow exuded the hope that this kind of clubs should be formed and expanded across the state.

Earlier, Minister Kumar Waii highlighted the basic objectives of opening of the club.

 

 

Rally against poor BSNL service.

TAWANG, Oct 11: Around one thousand people, mostly students and youths under the banner of All Dakpa Pangchen Students Union, Lumla, took out a peace rally today in protest against the poor BSNL network, particularly in the Lumla area.

During the rally which started at Manpat Bazaar in the morning and culminated at the New Lumla, the participants with placard demanded improvement of poor BSNL network at the earliest in Lumla region.

Despite repeated requests made to the BSNL authorities for the improvement of its network, no action was taken by the BSNL so far, the union said. The union urged the BSNL to improve the network within the given time to avoid further agitation, according to a release.

 

RKMH observes world sight day

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar in collaboration with National Programme for Control of Blindness, Arunachal Pradesh, and Light for the World, Austria observed “World Sight Day” at the hospital on October 9.

Dr. Taba Khanna, Eye Specialist, General Hospital, Naharlagun explained the theme of this year’s World Sight Day and gave important tips for healthy eyes and various aspects of eye care to the students, teachers, nurses, hospital staff and doctors present on the occasion. Dr. K. Darang, senior eye surgeon of Arunachal state Hospital spoke about avoidable blindness and its prevention.

An extempore speech competition was conducted among the students of three schools in Capital Complex while a drawing competition on Swach Bharat Abhiyan was conducted among the students of School of Nursing of the hospital to mark the occasion.

The programme was attended by Chief Councilor Higio Aruni and Dr. R Doye, Additional DHS, DME.

 

Nyishi remembers Heri Tai

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: With somber mood, hundreds of people from the Nyishi community thronged at Indira Gandhi Park Gate D Sector and paid floral tribute to Heri Tai on his third death anniversary here today. Late Heri Tai, whom the community declared as martyr, died on this fateful day after he succumbed to his bullet injuries during the protest against Pradeep Thakur’s remarks on community in ToI in 2011. Led by the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) various Nyishi community based organizations and senior members of the community and family members of late Tai joined in observing the 3rd death anniversary.

 

Awareness prog on health accounting scheme

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: A team of scientists from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi visited Doimukh in Papum Pare district recently to evaluate the feasibility of Health Accounting Scheme (HAS)-a pilot research project funded by ICMR.

During the two days programme, the team comprising Dr. SD Gupta, Director, IIHMR, Dr, KK Ganguly, Scientist-E, Social and Behavioural Unit and Dr. Neeta Kumar, Scientist-C, Reproductive Health and Nutrition Unit, ICMR visited rural households in Chiputa and Midphu area of Doimukh and had coordination meeting with various department heads, PRI leaders and health workers and public awareness meeting in association with local administration besides training programme.

While explaining the benefits of health diary, Dr. Nabam Peter Health Research Scientist of the Directorate of Health Services urged the people to cooperate in the endeavour by making entry of their health issues in the dairy, the information of which will be collected, analysed and used for tailoring promotive and preventive aspects of healthcare and for framing various health policies.

Reiterating the need for health accounting, Dr. S. Ronya, DMO, exhorted all targeted cohort to use the health diary for their own benefit and take advantage of health camps in this scheme to screen themselves for many diseases like Anemia, Hypertension, Diabetes etc.

 

60th Wildlife Week celebrated

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The Namdapha Tiger Reserve Management celebrated the 60th Wildlife Week along with the rest of the state.

The celebration began on October two coinciding with birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing mass rally where students of seven schools in and around Miao township along with teaching staff, public and Namdapha Tiger Reserve officials participated.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Conservator of Forests and Field Director, Namdapha Tiger Reserve Dusu Shra explained in details on the importance of conservation of wildlife and natural resources and peaceful co-occurrence between wildlife and humans.

The Field Director emphasized on the protection, preservation and development of flora and fauna, and the role of people living in fringe villages and promotion and prospects of eco-tourism for economic upliftment of the local people living within buffer zone of the reserve.  

Assistant Field Director Hemmar Nyorak highlighted the necessity of formation of eco-development committee for the villager and deriving benefits out of it.

Member of State Wildlife Board Phupla Singpho also spoke on the occasion elaborating ill-effects of hunting, poaching of wild animals and birds and warned that rare and endangered animals and bird species will be disappeared soon from this place if we do not take proper care of them today.

A drawing competition among the students and extempore speech competition for adult villagers on the topic “How villagers can extend support towards wildlife protection measures effectively” was organized on the concluding day of the celebration. An awareness programme was also organized at Govt. Primary School, Khatan.

The Panchayat leaders, Gaon Burah, village elders, women and youth of Khatan village actively participated in the programme and gave support towards wildlife conservation efforts of Namdapha Tiger Reserve management.

Formation of Eco-Development Committees for buffer zone was discussed and villagers reportedly agreed for immediate constitution of the same.

 

ITBP officers team visit Bhalukpong

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: A team of high-ranking ITBP officers including RDK Singh, IG Northeast, Ajay Pal Singh, DIG ITBP Itanagar made a survey at Bhalukpong for establishment of ITBP headquarter.

Local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary PHED Kumsi Sidisow, while guiding the ITBP team appealed the public and panchayat leaders to cooperate with the ITBP for benefit of the local area.  All Hrusso (Aka) Socio Culture Welfare Society general secretary Debru Dususow also assured full cooperation to the ITBP officials for establishment of its headquarter at Bhalukpong, according to a release.    

 

Namsai VKAJ conducts discourse  for creative leaders

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti (VKAJ), Namsai organized a dialogue for creative leaders on topic ‘Timeless India-Resurgent India’ at Arunachal University of Studies Namsai. Dr. JK Bajaj, Director Centre for Policy Studies, New Delhi spoke on the key theme with special focus on the Himalayan range the natural great wall of India.

He also answered a volley of questions from audience on the topic. Ashok, Nagar Sanghatak of Vivekananda Kendra, Tezu gave brief introduction of Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti and its various activities.  More than 70 students attended the function.

 

12-hr Lower Subansiri bandh

ZIRO, Oct 11: The All Lower Subansiri Trans-Arunachal Highway Land Affected People’s Forum (ALSTAHLAPF) in a meeting here yesterday called 12 hours dawn to dusk Lower Subansiri district bandh on October 13 next for non fulfillment of its demands by the government.

ALSTAHLAPF had submitted a memorandum to the state government on October 1 with an ultimatum for fulfillment of its three-point demands, which included early release of compensation to the land affected people on the basis of property assessment made by the team constituted by the district administration, cancellation of 2012 Gram Sabha resolution and maintenance of all the roads which are in deplorable condition especially the road from Potin to Bopi village that fall under NH-229. They also demanded proper maintenance of the Bailey bridge over Tamen (Kamla River), according to an ALSTAHLAPF release.

 

Free medical camps by AVP

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) conducted a series of medical camps in Lower Dibang Valley and Dibang Valley districts in the last one week.

Around 360 patients have benefited from the health camps. Besides free health checkups, medicines were provided to the patients.

Dr. Oken Mega, Senior Medical Officer of Roing led the team and went in far flung areas to serve needy and poor people.

NHPC provided the vehicles for this noble cause. Some donors from Tinsukia and Mumbai have contributed medicines for the camps.

AVP’s district organizing secretary Deepak Dalvi and youth workers made all the necessary arrangements in the villages with the help of local leaders and villagers. The team conducted free health camp at Desali, New Anaya, Anelih and New Indolin in four days.

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: The second Coming Prayer Centre Management Development Committee CRC has requested the Capital SP to deploy police personnel for safety and protection of the Healing cum Prayer Centre of Christian Revival Church located at Sekar Dokap, Upper Jullang here.

It alleged that some miscreants had tried to burn down the prayer centre on Thursday who they claimed were arrested, it expressed apprehension that the same group may try to harm the centre again.

 

Tuki resents poor condition of Naharlagun-Yupia road

ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today conducted a surprise inspection of the Naharlagun-Yupia road and expressed strong resentment over the poor condition of the road.

President of India Pranab Mukharjee is expected to attend the first convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) on November 21 next. The NIT is located at its temporary campus at Yupia.

The landslide triggered by incessant rain has damaged the road at many points which may not be fit for the President to visit by road, the Chief Minister apprehended.

He also had a detailed discussion with NIT director Prof C T Bhunia in his office and enquired about the ongoing preparations for the President’s visit.
